Where your money goes, and what we can see

Clerqpay asks you to connect a bank account and send your clients somewhere to pay. That deserves a plain answer about how it works, not a badge.

We never hold your money

Card payments are taken by Paystack, not by Clerqpay. Paystack splits the payment at the moment it is charged and settles your share directly to the bank account you connected. There is no Clerqpay balance, no wallet, and no point at which your money sits with us waiting to be released — which also means we could not withhold it if we wanted to.

Paystack settles card payments to your bank account, usually the next working day. Your first payout after connecting or changing bank details takes an extra day. The exact schedule is set by Paystack against your account, so if yours differs from the usual, theirs is the number that counts.

Bank transfers never touch us at all

When a client pays by bank transfer, the money moves from their bank to yours. Clerqpay only records that you say it arrived: your client tells us they have paid and gives the reference, and you confirm it against your own account before the invoice is marked paid. A client cannot mark their own invoice as settled.

What it costs

On paid plans, Naira invoices are paid directly through Paystack — the money settles to your bank, not ours. Paystack charges its standard processing fee (1.5% + ₦100, capped at ₦2,000 per payment). Clerqpay adds 1.5% on top of that, also capped at ₦2,000 per payment — so our share never grows without limit on a large invoice. By default it comes out of your proceeds, but you can pass it to your client instead — Settings → Payments, or per invoice. Either way the fee is shown before anyone pays. Invoices in other currencies are paid by bank transfer, which your client confirms in the app. Card payments for more currencies are on the way.

We would rather name the fee than describe it as “processing fees”. Paystack’s share is the cost of accepting cards at all and never reaches us; ours is what Clerqpay charges for the service. See pricing for plans.

Your account

  • Two-factor authentication using an authenticator app, available on every plan including Free. When it is on it is enforced server-side, not just in the login form.
  • Your bank details are held by Paystack against the subaccount you connect.
  • Team access is scoped per account, so a teammate sees that business and no other.
  • Payment pages are reached by an unguessable link, and that link shows one invoice — never your client list, your other invoices, or your revenue.

Getting your data out, and deleting it

Export every invoice, client, payment and receipt to CSV from Settings, on any plan, as many times as you like — not a sample, and not capped at the first thousand rows. If you want your account and its data deleted, email hello@clerqpay.com and we will do it. Nothing is held back to make leaving harder.

What we do not claim

We hold no security certification, and we are not going to imply one with a badge. Clerqpay is a small product; what protects your money is that we never hold it, and what protects your data is the list above. If that is not enough for your situation, tell us what you need and we will give you a straight answer about whether we have it.
